Learning Hortatory Exposition



 

Hi pepps! I will discuss the third material this semester, which is about "Hortatory Exposition".



—   Theory 

Definition

Hortatory exposition text is a type of text that is used to convince or invite readers or listeners to do something or take certain actions. This text aims to influence the thoughts and attitudes of others through strong and logical arguments.

Text Structure

  1. Introduction - Contains an introduction to the topic or problem to be discussed. This introduction aims to grab the attention of the reader or listener and make them interested in continuing to read or listen to the text.
  2. Arguments - Contains arguments that support the author's statement of opinion, and why certain actions should be taken. These arguments are presented using facts, data, logic, and sound reasoning.
  3. Recommendation - This section invites the reader to take action or change their attitude according to the statement of opinion that has been presented.

Language Features

  1. Use the simple present tense, as this text presents an opinion that is not bound by time references.
  2. Presenting arguments, so there are conjunctionssuch as firstly, secondly, furth in addiction, etc.
  3. Use evaluative words such as important, valuable, etc.
  4. Using passive voice or passive sentences.

 

—   Example of Argumentative Text

Rules Without Love is Commands

Introduction :

In our society  there are rules, it is as similar as commands. With the rules of society, we can live in peace and tranquility. Therefore, rules must be based on love, so that society lives in harmony.

Arguments 1:

We must obey the rules in our society. For example, maintain order and be responsible. Abiding by the rules of society is an obligation that reflects our responsibility as citizens to create a safe, harmonious and sustainable environment for everyone.

 

Arguments 2 :

Respecting others' privacy and property rights does not only include direct actions. We must also consider the unexpected impact of our actions on others, such as disseminating their personal information without their permission or defaming them. This supports the establishment of a social environment filled with mutual respect and support.

Arguments 3 :

Participating in democratic processes, such as elections and public discussions, enables citizens to actively contribute to the formation of policies that reflect the needs and aspirations of society. As participation is also influential in the democratic process and respect for due process, society forms a solid foundation for achieving equality in all aspects of life. It creates a solid foundation for maintaining justice and equality for all citizens, as decisions are made taking into account a wide range of views and interests.

Recommendation :

In conclusion, by recognizing the importance of obedience to societal rules, respecting others' rights, and actively participating in democratic processes, we can foster a society grounded in love, harmony, and mutual understanding. Maintaining harmony in society can be done by, obeying the rules, respecting others' privacy, and participating in democratic. So, rules should be enforced on the basis of love, so that people can live in harmony and support each other.
